Our Duathlon!

It was great to see so many learners from LH1 participating in our school duathlon today! Lots of learner qualities we used both leading up to the event and during the duathlon.

Here are some photos from today's event.

Using Questions in Literacy

We have been learning about using questions to help with our learning when reading.

Nell made a great connection about making bookmarks like what we have in the library. So we chose questions we could ask when reading texts and made bookmarks with these on them so we can use them at school and home.

Thomas' diorama

For break through learning Thomas' group is learning about tigers and sharks. They decided to display their learning by creating a diorama of the animals in their habitats. They watched a video to build their knowledge about what a diorama is and what materials are needed.

Thomas went home and applied his understanding by creating his own diorama. Great connecting Thomas!

Health and PE Week 8

Health and PE in hub 1

We have been learning about relationships and interpersonal skills following our unit of basketball learning with Kiwisport.

What are the important skills we need in order to be successful as a team?
We talked about collaborating, listening to each other, being respectful and sharing equipment. Can you think of any other important skills we might need?

Miss Hinge was so impressed at how you completed your learning today. You showed fantastic team work!

In hub 1 and 2 we are learning about cause and effect as part of our concept.

We used scales and the blocks to wonder about cause and effect....if I build my tower too tall what might happen?

Zara C - we are making a house with a hole in the door so someone can come through.

Elle and Emma - we are building the tallest tower!

Molly - we are balancing the scales

Benjamin, Issac and Nubaid - we did it!

Ted and Ryan are using the scales to see what is heavier.

These are the sentences we came up with after our hands on learning:

If I put 2 more blocks on my tower it will fall. Mikayla

If I stand too close to my tower it might knock me out! Elle

If you put too many weights in one scale, the other end will fall. Charlotte

Last Week of Basketball!

It is our last week of basketball with our coaches from Kiwi Sport.  Today we got to play full games against each other, using all the skills we had learned the previous weeks.  A lot of the hub enjoyed trying to shoot goals, while marking other players in the opposition.  Our coaches reminded us about playing basketball in one of the clubs around Stonefields School.  Thank you to the coaches for teaching us the last four weeks, we have really enjoyed learning!

Taking photos in maths!

Today we are using our iPads to take photos of our learning. Taking a photo means that we have evidence of what we have achieved. This group of learners are working on addition and subtraction facts to 20.
